Which State Just Banned Texting While Driving?
Listen up Jewel. Alaska just banned all texting while operating a motor vehicle. So if you are doing any type of auto transport in Alaska, you are going to have to wait to send that text…so you don’t have to make a phone call…and make human contact. The law reads as follows according to drivinglaws.org:
1. The vehicle has a television, video monitor, portable computer, or any other similar means capable of providing a visual display that is in full view of a driver in a normal driving position while the vehicle is in motion; and the monitor or visual display is operating while the person is driving.
Texting isn’t actually called out by name, but it certainly falls under the “any other similar means” mumbo-jumbo. Alaska is actually the 5th state to ban texting while driving. This just begs the question: why is anyone in any state allowed to text and drive? People can’t drive when they have no distractions what-so-ever. People obviously can’t talk and drive very well. According to eurekalert.org:
University of Utah psychologists have published a study showing that motorists who talk on handheld or hands-free cellular phones are as impaired as drunken drivers.
That’s just talking! Now add fine motor skills and the need for lots of attention, and you have an accident waiting to happen…literally. I’m with Alaska on this one. Put the phone down…2 and 10…watch the road ahead of you.

This includes a laptop. If someone in the passenger side of your vehicle is using their laptop. even if you’re not paying attention to it, you could get a ticket.
