The Cars are Greener on the Other Side…

It seems like everyone you talk to these days seems convinced that the newer, more eco-friendly vehicles are the way to go. But what about buying a pre-owned vehicle?

If you’re like most other Americans who have been used to driving big vehicles and sports utility vehicles, the recent gas crisis may have you looking around for something…well…smaller. There are many who speculate that the wave of the future will be to purchase eco-friendly vehicles-or those vehicles that consume less gas or use alternative energy such as ethanol, electricity, the sun or even water. But the question still remains in the minds of those who are hesitant to jump on the eco-wagon, “Are eco-friendly cars really more affordable than regular cars?”

Environmentally Friendly Versus Practical

I think that it may still be too early to tell which type of vehicle will come out on top, but for the critics, there are plenty of reasons to stick to what you know. One thing that comes into question when discussing eco-friendly vehicles is that of practicality versus being more environmentally conscious. With the recent gas crisis has come a sudden, sort of forced awareness that gas does not grow on trees like we thought. Whether or not we may want to admit to it, we are all now a little more environmentally aware of how our consumption of oil fuel is affecting the environment in which we live. But does anyone really care? Should we admit defeat on this one, succumbing to the sad fact that most of us are now peeking over the proverbial fence to see that the cars are greener on the other side, hence our turning towards “green” cars not as a means of being eco-friendly, but rather as being more cost-efficient? If it was determined that eco-friendly cars were actually more expensive than pre-owned vehicles, how many of you would still purchase one? After all, the gas may not be greener on the other side when it comes to your bank account.
