“Thank you SO much, Officer!”: How Good Manners Can Go a Long Way

The next time you get pulled over by the cops, you might want to brush up on your etiquette before rolling down the window. There are many who claim that it is difficult to get out of a speeding ticket; however, there are some who would argue otherwise.

Who are the Cops Looking for?

According to an NBC news story, most police officers aren’t looking for those people who are speeding with the flow of traffic. Instead, they are looking for those people who are going faster. For example, if the speed limit is 65 miles per hour, and everyone around you is doing 75 miles per hour, then you’re probably not going to get pulled over. However, if you’re doing 80 miles per hour, you’re probably going to stand out to an officer. And if you thought that having an excuse ready and waiting would do the trick, it turns out that not many officers buy it despite other civilians’ claims that the excuses really do work. According to the state trooper in the article, the only excuses that work with troopers are medical emergencies. But here are some other crafty excuses that people have used:

  • “I was going downhill.”
  • “I was passing a truck/car.”
  • “I’m running late and my wife is waiting for me.”
  • “My odometer is broken.”
  • “I was just driving with the rest of the traffic.”
  • “You’re just pulling me over because I’m from out of state!”
  • “I have an upset stomach and really need to use the bathroom.”

  1. If you say that in Germany, you will get a ticket anyway. These excuses don’t protect you from getting a ticket. When you are driving too fast then you are driving too fast ;)
