Smart Car is a Smart Move for Daimler
It looks like the smart car is reaping benefits for Daimler already. The vehicle has already sold over 16 thousand units in little over half a year. Overall sales for Daimler are up, and are at a .5% increase over this time last year. So it is really starting to look like smart car production was a smart move for Daimler.
Even though much of the market, especially the sale of domestic autos, seems to be down, the market for reliable, well built, fuel efficient cars is on the rise. I don’t know how many people upon seeing the smart car would have thought it would make an impact on sales this early. Perhaps it is a bit of a fad that will die away with time, but given the constant rise of gas prices, I doubt it will be short lived.
This brings me to a point which I am very please with: the return of the small car. I drive a small car, and I only really like small cars. I’m tall, but I have never found larger cars to be all that roomy on the inside. So now that others are embracing smaller autos this means that the roads might become a little safer. Since all the tank-cars are coming off the roads, smaller cars are taking those spots. I never enjoyed looking in my rear view mirror and thinking as my friend Bill eloquently stated: “that guy needs new struts.” I like knowing the roads are going to be used by smaller cars…it’s safer, and smarter.
