People are Still Getting Hit by Cars?
According to a recent article published in the Los Angeles Times, a 78-year-old man was “tossed like a rag doll” in a hit-and-run on a busy street in Hartford, Connecticut. The entire scene was caught on a streetlight surveillance camera, and what’s even more shocking is the fact that after the vehicle struck the men and kept going, the people who were actually there and saw the entire thing happen appeared to do nothing about it for a few minutes!
The camera apparently showed one driver stopping briefly, (as if to see if the man was ok) before pulling back into traffic. Another man on a scooter actually circled the victim and then sped away. However, 911 records showed that several people called in the accident. But still, the fact remains that the video footage showed nine cars passing the injured man as well as several people gathering to stare at the helpless victim. Several people attempted to approach the victim but did not get too close, with one witness stating that he didn’t know how to deal with someone who had blood all over them.
The victim is a retired forklift operator, who was crossing the street when two cars that were racing apparently crossed the center line and struck him before continuing on down a side street. If anything, this is just a reminder that when you get behind the wheel of a car, you have a responsibility to drive safely and be aware of everything that is going on around you. Remember, driving is not a right; it’s a privilege.
