Parking Deck Collapses in Atlanta
We’ve all done it at some point, and if you haven’t, chances are that you probably will. I’m talking about parking your car in a parking deck. While many of us feel slightly claustrophobic just thinking about having to use a parking garage, the fact of the matter is that parking garages and parking decks provide extra space for us to park our vehicles. Because of how parking decks are stacked up (some reaching incredible heights), it’s hard to imagine a time when something wouldn’t go wrong.
Oh, but it did.
Today, news just broke that part of a parking deck located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, collapsed which caused many cars to become crushed under the rubble. So far, there haven’t been any reports of injuries. While there hasn’t been any discussion as to why or how the parking deck collapsed, no doubt it had something to do with the structural integrity of the parking deck to begin with. I am sure that whoever originally constructed the parking deck will be receiving a phone call.
The parking deck is located right near the Georgia Tech campus and it has been reported that emergency personnel were last seen waiting to secure the structure before searching through the piles of wrecked cars. It is also believed that due to the proximity of this parking deck to the Georgia Tech campus, the partial collapse of this parking deck occurred near a book store and gym frequented by students. Hopefully, no one was injured.
