So many families are either fed up with the high gas prices or simply cannot afford it, so many of them are now turning to “staycations” instead of vacations. What is a staycation, you might ask? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like: you stay home.

Due to the fact that the value of the American dollar has fallen a great deal within the past year alone, combined with over $4 a gallon as well as air travel becoming increasingly expensive (can you believe they’re charging extra now for checking a bag?!), many people are finding alternative ways to vacation in style without the long road trips and big hotel expenses.

According to a recent article published by MSNBC:

In it’s annual summer vacation survey, the American Automobile Association said the average North American vacation will cost $244 per day for two people for lodging and meals. The priciest destination will be Honolulu, where room and food for two adults will average $673 a day. Add some kids and airfare, and a 10-day vacation could top $10,000 easy.

Now, just because gas prices are high, it doesn’t mean that you can’t drive your car around. Many people are turning to other alternatives such as auto transport to help them save money. Still, others are finding plenty of things to do in the states that they live in.
