Looking For an Underwater Car?
Even if you’d never use it, it’d still be cool to own one…an underwater car that is. After all, James Bond had one, so why shouldn’t you too?! Back when Roger Moore played 007 in the film The Spy Who Loved Me, gadget geeks were beside themselves as they watched him drive his white Lotes Espirit under water. Now, almost three decades later, we finally have the sQuba.
What is the sQuba?
Developed by a Swiss company named Rinspeed, the sQuba is the world’s first car that can be driven both on land and under water. I find it incredibly fascinating as Wikipedia offers a better explanation:
The sQuba is a zero-emission, all electric vehicle which uses three electric motors, one for land travel and two for water. It drives on land powered by its electric rear-wheel drive powertrain, utilizing rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Upon entering water, it floats on the surface until the operator floods the interior to submerge it. It can be submerged to a depth of 10 metres (33ft), powered by twin electric-powered propellers supplemented by two Seabob water jets. It “flies” when underwater, like a submarine, as it is not designed to drive along the surface at the bottom of the water.
On land, the sQuba can travel up to 75 miles per hour. On the surface of water, this speed is reduced to 6 miles per hour, and under water it is further reduced to just below 2 miles per hour. While the water speeds are significantly less than the land speed, you have to admit that being able to drive your car under water is still pretty freaking cool!

Definitely a cool car.
Gotta say, though - what’s with the no roof! James Bond’s car had a top and the girl’s hair was still perfect when he drove out of the water. LOL!
