How Car Companies Plan to Take Your Hard Earned Money

If you follow this blog at all you realize by now that I have a bone to pick with the U.S. auto industry. They are inefficient, poorly managed, produce horrid products, and suck money out of our economy to boot. In the latest turn of events Chrysler vice chairman Jim Press stated that Chrysler is ready to compete in the auto market, and all they need from us (the tax payers) is billions of our dollars. According to the Detroit Free Press, Press was quoted as saying:

$25 billion would be a “good start” and that there needs to be “some way of taking a look at the return on that $25 billion, and if in everyone’s perspective, we can do it again, we should. I think for a beginning, $25 billion is an appropriate place to start.

25 billion dollars is a “good start?” No kidding 25 billion dollars is a “good start.” I’m pretty sure that every company on the planet would love to have $25 billion thrown at them, however, unlike GM, Chrysler, and Ford, I bet the other companies might actually produce something worthwhile. The whole $25 billion bailout is actually $25 billion less then that 50 billion dollars that the big three initially wanted.

-So what happened?

-Ummm. We’ll take $50 billion. That’s what we really need to get by right now, and bring our product up to speed. You don’t have $50 billion to give us? Well…how about 25 billion?

What were they planning on doing with the other 25 billion dollars that they, all-of-a-sudden, don’t need? Where was that money (our money) going to go?

Why don’t we just get the hammer and sickle and replace the stars and stripes already. Isn’t that where all of this is heading?
