Help for the Transportation Disadvantaged
Even before the massive gas crisis erupted, there have always been plenty of people who have lived without a vehicle. But how do these people handle crises when it erupts? According to one article that was published by CNN, there area lot of people who are putting their lives in danger whether they choose to or not by not having ample transportation.
For some people, not being able to afford a car comes with its share of dangers as many have small children with medical problems who need to travel to and from doctor’s appointments. According to the article, one man saw that this was a problem in his home town of Birmingham, Alabama and took the initiative to start a program called Kid One Transport.
Founded in 1997, Kid One Transport provides children and expectant mothers with access to health care services throughout the state of Alabama. While there are many who have found ways to save money on gas by car pooling or utilizing the services of car carrier companies, some simply cannot afford vehicles, which puts them in a slippery situation (especially if they live in an area where there is little to no mass transportation). Having programs such as Kid One Transport gives people an opportunity to be more mobile, especially when the health of their children or family members is involved.
