With the rising prices of gas, more and more people are becoming fed up with paying to fill up at the pumps. As a result, many are looking elsewhere for alternative ways of getting around. One man decided to take matter into his own hands by drilling for oil in his backyard. Geez, people are really going to extremes!

According to story by Eyewitness News, a man from Selma, Indiana is actually making money off of the high price of oil. According to the news report, Greg Losh began drilling on his 10-acre Indiana property to look for natural gas to heat his home. He found the gas and then had the idea to continue drilling to see if there was oil. As it turned out, after only digging an additional 300 feet or so, Losh found oil approximately 1,300 feet below the surface. Losh wouldn’t tell news reporters how many barrels of oil he pumps each day. However, the cost of the drilling was estimated somewhere around $100,000 and is expected to be paid off within a year. Additionally, the oil is pumped twice a day for 30 minutes before it’s sold to vendors.

Imagine if you could drill for oil on your property- would you really do it? I’m not so sure that I would really want to tear up my backyard to make some money off of oil. But then again, if it would mean the difference between not having to worry about paying exorbitant prices at the pump, then I might think twice about it. The article also brings up the issue of oil drilling. If oil can be found locally, here in the United States, then how is it that companies such as Mobil and Exxon don’t take that into consideration?

Losh claims that while he is making money off of drilling for oil on his property, there is another reason for the drilling:

It’s mainly that we don’t have to depend on foreign oil.
