Dump Trucks Set Record

File this one under weird and pointless news. I’ll just let you read a snippet of the AP’s article and let you digest it:

Nearly 300 tow trucks rumbled through New York City on Saturday in an attempt to smash the world record for the largest parade of its kind.

Organizers think they hit the mark, with 292 trucks participating. The procession included flatbeds, wreckers and 50-ton rotators.

I wonder what a bunch of auto transporters would have looked like? All I can think about is how bad traffic is in New York City, and how much worse this must have made it. The second think I am thinking about is how much gas must have been wasted in this little event! Almost 300 diesel trucks rumbling down New York City Streets…that’s a lot of fuel!

I did the math and figured that it would cost about $478 dollars more to put on this little parade then the previous record would have cost in 2004. Just seems like a waste of money to me! It’s nice to know that with the economy dying, and gas prices rising that the American spirit is still willing to do something stupid and pointless for a cheap thrill. Maybe I’m a bit too cynical, but couldn’t $500 dollars have been put to better use? Maybe.
