Drunk Drivers Beware: Your Mugshot May Be Posted!
According to a recent article published on KHON2.com, the theme of the Honolulu Police Department is “Think Before You Drink”.
After booking more than 3,600 this year for driving while intoxicated, the police department is taking things a step further by posting the mugshots of those who are arrested for driving under the influence. Not only this, but the persons charged with DWI will also have their name as well as the violation posted on the Honolulu Police Department’s website.
Alarmingly, the Honolulu Police Department claims to average anywhere between eighty to ninety DUI arrests PER WEEK, and to add insult to injury, the number of deaths resulting from DUI-related incidents has gone up since last year. The mug-shot program is set to run for six months, and it is the hope of the Honolulu Police Department that this action will deter others from getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
People need to realize that when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle that they intend to drive after they’ve been drinking, they are not only putting themselves at risk for injury or even death, but they are also putting other’s at risk as well. Perhaps we really need to take a hard look at the slogan “Think before you drink” and do a little thinking of our own.
