It’s 5:30 in the afternoon and the roadway you were once travelling on has now turned into a parking lot of aggravated drivers just trying to make it home; and to add to your frustrations as you’re sitting there wondering if you’re ever going to move, you see a single motorcyclist weaving in and out of traffic. While most motorists might become annoyed at motorcyclists, motorcycles have become a cost-effective means of travel. 
According to the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), the percentage of motorcycle riders has significantly increased over the years in North Carolina and with good reason. With the rise in gas prices throughout the United States, larger numbers of Americans are looking to motorcycles more than any other form of transportation simply because they are the most cost efficient. Let’s face it; motorcycles are easier to park because they are smaller than a car or SUV, they require less gas, they get good mileage, and they are cheaper to purchase. What’s not to like? Sure, if you’re planning a cross country trip, you may have to use some sort of motorcycle transport service because I can’t imagine, for example, how comfortable it would be to ride a motorcycle in the dead of winter from New York to Ohio.
Now, riding motorcycles has its disadvantages, and certainly it’s not for everyone. However, for the young at heart (or for those who are simply trying to save money), purchasing a motorcycle makes sense. Sometimes I wish I still had my motorcycle. I rode it one whole year after falling and breaking my elbow. I was just too nervous to enjoy it. Maybe I will try it again someday. I passed the Motorcycle Safety course and keep my endorsement on my driver’s license current.

I don’t ride motorcycles, personally, but my brother swears by them. He just bought his 3rd motorcycle and says that they’re great for getting around in and don’t cost much in gas at all. I still prefer my jeep though
