Are Used Cars Better Than Hybrids?
When I was out looking around to buy my first vehicle, I was excited but also made the mistake of not doing my research prior to making that first trip to the dealership. I shopped purely on emotion and nothing else. The result? A brand new Jeep that is sucking the money out of my wallet both at the pump and in car payments. And to add insult to injury, even though it is in mint condition and isn’t even a year old, no one wants it! So, now I begin the car journey all over again, hopefully this time with a renewed sense of purpose and the knowledge of a hard life’s lesson under my belt. But where to begin?
New vs. Used vs. Hybrid
There are many people out there who are pouncing on the chance to purchase an alternative fuel vehicle. However, there are many critics who claim that you shouldn’t jump for joy just yet when it comes to buying an alternative fuel vehicle or hybrid. I think, perhaps, the makers of hybrid vehicles are still working out a lot of the kinks. Many hybrid vehicles still cost a pretty penny, which doesn’t make them as marketable to the people who want to buy them the most. And unfortunately, buying another new car isn’t exactly in the cards for me at the moment. So, what am I left with but to look at a used vehicle [insert frowning face here].
Buying Used Isn’t That Bad
Contrary to what many people believe, buying a used vehicle isn’t as bad as it seems. In fact, there are many who would agree that buying a used car is actually better. After all, what is one of the main reasons that people purchase hybrid cars? It’s partly because they care about the environment; but really all they want is to be able to drive a dependable car without all of the added expense. Used cars provide a great alternative with many older models getting higher gas mileages than new and hybrid cars combined. All you have to do is look for the deals!

I think hybrid cars are better than used cars.
As compared to used car’s-hybrid car’s are better because by using it we can avoid pollution.
That is a key point:
Vehicles built in the late 80’s and early 90’s tend to have much better fuel economy than more current ones.
It’s almost as if the car companies have forgotten how to build a fuel-efficient vehicle.
Max Kleiber is right, my truck gets worse mileage than a ten year old Dodge diesel.
Also how are you saving the environment when it causes so much polution to build your hybrid? A good small used car still must be the best bet, both for your pocketbook and the environment.
Hi,
